The brief was to deliver an explainer video for use online and as an opener in pitch situations. Internet startup Hotstar was commencing a funding round and needed a succinct explainer video to get their idea across to potential investors, as well as to site visitors and on social media. The video was to coincide with a soft launch of their music streaming and social network and needed to be produced in a short space of time and on a limited budget.
Hotstar is all about discovering and promoting the "Next Big Thing" in music. It's a music streaming platform exclusively for unsigned artists and combines a gaming engine and trading platform to promote interaction and listening. The more music is traded, gamed, recommended or listened to within the Hotstar community, the higher it rises in the charts. Hotstar gives listeners the power to discover and promote music talent without the influence of the big record labels. Recognising the need for a simple – and crucially – short explanation of a complex music streaming platform and social network, with gaming and trading features; we recommended a one minute motion graphics video to showcase this ground breaking concept.
Inspired character design and deceptively simple animation helped keep the production on budget. Animated entirely in-house and with a custom composed soundtrack.
